GONE FISHING
Fun~ ! neurographic piece first created in pen-and-ink-( black and white) -here in my studio in Asheville, N.C. But it soon I noticed a fish jumping out at me LOL! or was it a whale? I painted the image in watercolors and used acrylics to add texture to the piece.
When I photographed the image, it seemed I discovered (as you might) a totally new interpretation-- deepening the emergence of the life in a place of liquidity. This imaginative being had something to say about how to live companiably as we reap the benefits of the waters of earth.
This reminded me of the Native American/Iroquois creation story where earth was the ruler of a great island which floated peacefully in space-- until --the sky fell to cover it with water, a "great cloud sea."
As always, my theme is lyrical abstraction--eclectic collage-- fusion art, mixed media, simultaneously sparse and exciting because it combines textures and shapes of recognizable objects into patterns that spark the imagination.
It is an effort visually to narrate the place --beyond time -- where an angular abstract landscape can harmonize with the curving natural and logic meets emotion --in the space of possibility –first, from a sketch-- then to watercolor and/or acrylic on paper or canvas --then, photographed and digitally rendered.
THEME:: Nature and Landscapes
Landscapes are the inspiration for much of my work. There is a never-ending challenge to bring together inner-outer-natural- abstract into an eclectic-mixedmedia collage--(slices carved from my original art in a collage, digitally-rendered.) I am looking for the blended elements, both abstract and organic to become a fusion, lyrically abstracted, and ripe for story telling.
In this case, the narrative is about facing challenges-- a visual metaphor for life as we know it. It symbolizes engagement and possible joie de vivre.
MEDIA:: Sketch for composition to canvas and/or paper, sometimes, oil pastels, sometimes acrylic paint. The result then captured as a photo and brought to create a JPEG. Finally, digital layering of the original materials.
Symbolism :: Ever a sense of joy of life, transitions, new perceptions that evoke positive change, the embracing of an inner - symbolic-mythic- visual landscape that can reveal how disparate parts work together when visual impressions, founded on simple or more complex designs, build on a promising tale of life on Earth.
