Description
“A Wild Ride”
“A Wild Ride” started as a sketch done while I was desperately trying to stay composed . I was on a wild winter ferry ride across the rolling seas on my way to my studio in Friday Harbor, Washington State, USA.
The waves were enormous, The ferry was rocking with angles I had never experienced before. It was a breath-taking experience colored in gutsy-green. (lol) That led to a canvas that I soon photographed. It became this digital rendering - post painterly abstract expressionist- from my original sketch and painting.

THANK YOU.
Symbolism: You may find this expressive abstract piece symbolic of high anxiety. Yet, it also brings forth a sense of belonging in nature within the visual story that emphasizes the fraught process of selection we –each of us face-- every day—the challenge to seek equanimity despite the chaos in a surrounding environment.
The Story and painting method: The experience of riding the stormy waves was emotionally evocative. I tried to capture that particular sense and what I was feeling.... a bit of magic and mysterious connection, and contemporaneously a deep sense of being scared to my bones ... . I added strong curves and distinct color patterns and shapes to define those emotions and the sounds of nature. There are patterns and shadows and deepening expanses utilized to reflect the mood.
• The original is in a private collection now but is available here.

WES!!! now I'm LOL... if you've ever ridden that ferry in a storm in January , as I have, indeed, you'd be rockin' and rollin' I'm sure. Thanks for feeling this piece, and for your comment.

You've captured the feeling wonderfully here of the kind of ride that you describe, Zsanan! I can't look much longer, as my stomach is already feeling a bit queasy... :-) Very well done! L/F
