Description
"Amalfi- No. 3"
Original oil pastel became this post-painterly abstract expressionist piece as created in my studio in Asheville, North Carolina when I was inspired with the abstract features of the paste piece. Yes, it followed a thread of interest that runs through what I paint on canvas, or on paper, or in a digital way---love of the curves and lines and "energies" -- but there was something else here. ...something telling a visual story about The Fraught Process of Selection we—each of us-- face every day— and encouragement to look for possibility in what is around us.

THANK YOU.
SYMBOLISM: In this piece, the word, " L O V E " magically etched on the cliffs of Amalfi. Possibly, that inscription ( - arrived purely from my Muse and was not in the least intentional-) held as it is within the ever-changing colors defined by time and day was a metaphor for life, and a reminder of our mutual journey toward change with compassion. The lines and curves of the terrain, and the mountains plunging down to the Mediterranean sea with- (in the distance) - tiny buildings lightly planted on the cliffs, represent the perils and joys of life.
THE STORY: Given the symbolic nature of this piece, I wanted to create a vibrant visual impression. From my original oil pastel, I ventured into paintography and digital design to create a digital mixed medium collage with added patterns-texture for contextual value. To capture the emotional impact of the sea juxtaposed with the immense power of the rising cliffs, I used vivid reds, and purples, greens and turquoise- focusing on both the startling and delicate nature of the scene.
This artwork is available in a variety of framed and unframed gallery-quality prints, home décor items such soft and durable duvet covers, fabric shower curtains, and throw pillows as well as greeting cards and weekender totes.
