Description
BANGLES ON THE TREE OF LIFE
This image "happened" right there in my studio in Asheville, N.C.-- I was working on a meditative/relaxing and envisioning technique using pen and ink. While later I painted the image, I saved the original for a series of "adult coloring book" collection here. If you'd like to paint one, please let me know.
The nudge and jolt when elements come together with a sense of joie de vivre as I experienced when creating this "neurographic" image was captivating.
I'd love to share that feeling with you. It's llike a ray of sunshine on a cloudy day.
As David Bowie said, "I don't know where I'm going from here, but I promise it won't be boring."
The image itself was inspired by our view of the limbs of trees on the north slope by my studio- here in Asheville. As I mentioned, it began as a pen-and-ink sketch--a "neurographic" jaunt into the realm of possibility in life that I envison as "bangles" on the tree of life--jewels in moments of delight.
For me, creating images is a coalescing experience. I "lose track of time" while in the creative flow, and feel a deepening sense of calm. I love the idea of lyrical abstraction where I can blend geometric and organic influences.
One technique I have turned to-(as you see here)- to work toward that goal is Neurographic art, a process rooted in psychology and akin to meditative practices. For more info: https://www.neurographica.us
MEDIA:: Sketch for composition on paper. Pena nd Ink. The result then captured as a photo and brought to create a JPEG. .
Objective:: Narrative art with emotive content- that offers an opportunity for the viewer to interpret the story being told, and thus add to the story. Whether as a digital abstractionist, working as well on canvas and with photography to produce mixed media images, my hope is to engage the person who is looking at the image.
Symbolism :: Ever a sense of joy of life, transitions, new perceptions that evoke positive change, the embracing of an inner - symbolic-mythic- visual landscape that can reveal how disparate parts work together when visual impressions, founded on simple or more complex designs, build on a promising tale of life on Earth.
