Mixed Media - Digital Art, Mixed Media/photos/graphics
“Cooling Off in the Ladies’ Lounge”
Original photography - digitally-manipulated- of my own discarded (inanimate yet very lively red ) stiletto shoes to create the high-heeled sneakers-- (not very useful here in the mountains around Asheville, North Carolina)-- This is contemporary paintography art via the thread of interest that runs through what I paint on canvas, or on paper, or in a digital way--- the wry humor of life as we know it.
The visual story emphasizes The Fraught Process of Selection we—each of us- face ever day:Look for possibility in the world around us- and be kind- even to yourself.

Symbolism-Story: THE "OTHER"- “High heels were invented by a woman who was kissed on the forehead.” Rita Mae Brown. In this piece, the juxtaposition of 50 shades of red with changing light symbolizes both optimism and courage. It tells the story of positive change through figuring out remedies and solutions to unwanted, uncomfortable and/or harmful situations—especially from a feminine perspective...Insider humor. Here too is an appreciative reference to the “Walk a Mile in My Shoes Guys,” who know what it means to ...kick off those stiletto pumps.
The juxtaposition of shades of red and changing light symbolizes change and the desire for understanding different perspectives. This piece asks you to separate color from its usual representational and realistic perspective.
It’s a digital abstract rendering taking its meaning from the impetus of linear lines mixed with organic shapes and a multitude of shades of red. Empathize... feel for one another in bold RED!...and capture that feeling of immediacy.
Method: : I create from what is around me. I translate photos into mixed media often abstract expressionist digital renderings such as you see in this piece. I reach out for the story or metaphor to share in a narrative via texture, patterns, repetition that meet in the feeling of collage.
** This artwork is available in a variety of framed and unframed gallery-quality prints, home décor items such soft and durable duvet covers, fabric shower curtains, and throw pillows as well as greeting cards and weekender totes.
