“Curiosity”

“Curiosity” is a nod to the delights of childhood, puppies, butterflies and all we love about simple joys.

It is a figurative abstract paintography piece-- a digital rendering from my original photography of my darling Golden Retriever as viewed from studio here in Asheville, North Carolina.

This contemporary paintography art continues the thread of interest in dogs, cats, and butterflies that runs through what I paint on canvas, or on paper, or in a digital way.

The visual story emphasizes the fraught process of selection we—each of us-- face every day—that being curiosity, wonder and possibility all to be found in what is around us.

Theme and Symbolism: : In this paintography piece, the dog represents mindfulness, curiosity and gentleness with those who are different from us. The juxtaposition of color with changing light symbolizes positive change through envisioning different perspectives.

Story and Method: : I create from what is around me. I translate sketches into canvas work then take a photo creating a mixed media digital rendering such as you see in this piece. I reach out for the story or metaphor to share in a narrative via texture, patterns, repetition that many times meet in the feeling of collage.

This piece creates its narrative via texture, patterns, repetition with references to "lyrical abstraction.” These elements meet to offer a feeling of coming together as the collection of concepts and forms take shape.
