"Ebony and Ivory"

“Ebony and Ivory” is a visual story (taken from my colleague Val's photo) of two best friends. She rescued them together several years ago . They now can enjoy life with her and continue to hold each other close.

Here, I imagine them surrounded with "good energies" as (somewhere in the distance) a piano is playing ....one of McCartney’s songs, no doubt.. As I translate all of this wonderful scene from the original photography of to contemporary paintography here in my Asheville, North Carolina Studio, I feel delighted.

And a visual story about the fraught process of selection we—each of us-- face every day—emerges. Indeed as we look for possibility in what is around us, there is that chance to nurture.

Symbolism-Story: : In this paintography piece, the juxtaposition of black and white in changing light symbolizes positive change through envisioning different perspectives. Here is the story of longing for connection a tale of change with compassion as in the old Tao saying: “ The journey is the reward.”


Method: : I create from what is around me. I translate photos into mixed media often abstract expressionist digital renderings such as you see in this piece. I reach out for the story or metaphor to share in a narrative via texture, patterns, repetition that meet in the feeling of collage.
