"Harvest Joy No. 5"

This abstract expressionist piece is one of a series.. It began as a photo I took of a HUGE flower in a vase which graced my art studio here in Asheville, North Carolina. Soon it took on another life as collage- paintography with a hint of humor...( look for a moonstruck cat observing all the happenings from a perch in the window.)

I had to laugh when that cat arrived in the window almost as if by a muse. You may imagine the cat is looking out- beyond this time or place- with a new tale-switching and tail -switching perspective.. . .

This paintography now is as viewed from my studio in Asheville, North Carolina - turned to “contemporary mixed media collage” art via the thread of interest that runs through what I paint on canvas, or on paper, or in a digital way.: Life in visual story form. This emphasizes the fraught process of selection we -- each of us, and as a collection of living creatures- - face every day-- as we seek what is good and possible.

THEME AND SYMBOLISM:: In this paintography piece, the juxtaposition of color with changing light symbolizes positive change through envisioning different perspectives. Here is the story of longing for connection a tale of change with compassion. This is a theme that runs through what I paint on canvas, or on paper, or in a digital way.

SYMBOLISM: Cat in window...looking out beyond self....specifically symbolizes envisioning different perspectives while the the theme of the series is Change with Compassion: “The journey is the reward.”

METHOD:: Modern Impressionism, Abstract Expressionism, Narrative, and Digital Paintography with a Twist. Look for interpretations of outer/inner landscapes with a persistent focus on patterns and bold or unusual color. Photo and digital manipulation mostly NOT an accurate interpretation, seek to explore the essence of the subject. I move shapes, colors, forms, textures, layering and the overall gestalt to achieve an effect. Expect glimpses of reality from unusual perspectives. Image-making prompted by nature
