“Hearts In Flowers”

Original photography of a red rose as viewed in my studio in Asheville, North Carolina. I took a photo of it at full bloom and noticed the petals seemed to be shaped like hearts. Inspired by that the image turned to contemporary digital rendering- paintography art.

Symbolism-Story: : A thread of interest runs through what I paint on canvas, or on paper, or in a digital way to become a narrative or commentary. This visual story emphasizes The Fraught Process of Selection we—each of us-- face every day—that being the choice to look for possibility in what is around us.

In this paintography piece, the juxtaposition of soft shades of red, rose and umber combine with equally soft shades of green. There is a sense of changing light symbolizing positive change and a compassionate connection with all living beings.

The image also was inspired by this quotation:

" What quarrel, what harshness, what unbelief in each other can subsist in the presence of a great calamity, when all the artificial vesture of our life is gone, and we are all one with each other in primitive mortal needs?” ~George Eliot.

Method: : I create from what is around me. I translate photos into mixed media often abstract expressionist digital renderings such as you see in this piece. I reach out for the story or metaphor to share in a narrative via texture, patterns, repetition that meet in the feeling of collage.

This piece creates its narrative via texture, patterns, repetition, and "post-painterly-abstraction fauve-wave" bits that meet in the feeling of an integrated collection of concepts and forms... with a feeling of collage.
