HELLO
ACROSS THE GREAT EXPANSE
“This artwork was created using Neurographic Art techniques as developed by Pavel Piskarev in 2014.”
This image is part of the "INKLINGS" series. The question that was on my mind when this image arrived-- here (via pen and ink) -- in my sutdio in Asheville, N.C. was-- How can something be both simple and complex?
So this is about that EXPANSE, and in it one might discover an answer .
ASHEVILLE DROLLS & INKLINGS - are characters and caricatures found only in the mountains of North Carolina- specifically residing only in my Asheville studio. (((*:*)) where they often arrive to surprise me.
- These creatures may be opinionated but with good will and humor. And, YOU can add your colors to these pen-and-ink drawings
It's all about taking flight with joie de vivre- that's the message this image portrays for me. And it is one reason why I am excited about "neurographic" art--because--as this image demonstrates"- the results can be diverse as expressions when they come to life here in my studio in Asheville, N.C,
I am excited about "neurographic" art because (as this image demonstrates) the images that arrive can be diverse and open-ended.. This image of possibility came to life here in my studio in Asheville, N.C,--It looks like pure potential in so many ways to me-- how about you?
This image "happened" as I took out a sketch pad and began working with a meditative/relaxing and envisioning technique using pen and ink. (While later I painted the image, I saved the original for a series of "adult coloring book" collection here.)
The nudge and jolt when elements come together with a sense of joie de vivre as I experienced when creating this "neurographic" image was captivating.
As David Bowie said, "I don't know where I'm going from here, but I promise it won't be boring." And THIS image was just that for me. .!!
As I mentioned, it began as a pen-and-ink sketch--a "neurographic" jaunt into the realm of possibility where mountain slopes and coves and peaks come alive. For me, creating images is a coalescing experience. I "lose track of time" while in the creative flow, and feel a deepening sense of calm. I love the idea of lyrical abstraction where I can blend geometric and organic influences.
The technique I have turned to-(as you see here)- to work toward "letting go and moving effortlessly " into a creative process that goal is Neurographic art. It is one rooted in psychology and akin to meditative practices. For more info: https://www.neurographica.us
MEDIA:: Sketch for composition to paper. The result then captured as a photo and brought to create a JPEG. Finally, digital layering of the original materials.
Objective:: Narrative art with emotive content- that offers an opportunity for the viewer to interpret the story being told, and thus add to the story. Whether as a digital abstractionist, working as well on canvas and with photography to produce mixed media images, my hope is to engage the person who is looking at the image.
Symbolism :: Ever a sense of joy of life, transitions, new perceptions that evoke positive change, the embracing of an inner - symbolic-mythic- visual landscape that can reveal how disparate parts work together when visual impressions, founded on simple or more complex designs, build on a promising tale of life on Earth.

Had to laugh when this image arrived--just after a bob cat had crossed my path while out on the mountainside.
