Description
“Her Extravagant Melt” is a modern impressionist painting with references to Fauvism. It is a textured acrylic impasto piece using "hot" colors and geometric-abstract elements to highlight the subject.
Originally on canvas, it tells the story of man in relation to nature. You may find a tiny human figure in this piece as it invites you to create your own spin on the visual tale. I hope you will find a connection here - linger awhile, possibly start a conversation about the elements - spaces, lines, textures and rhythms and contemporary themes that speak to you.

This visual image actually began as a PHOTO! An incredible brilliant sunset over the mountains at the French Broad River near my studio in Asheville, North Carolina inspired what came next....a pen-and-ink sketch that took shape as an acrylic on canvas, later to be photographed once more.
At that point it evolved into mixed media, modern contemporary paintography. When I took a photo of the final iteration and subjected it to the whims of my muse-(and computer)- the result was a sense of collage and this digital rendering.

*THANKS to artists and photographer colleagues for your comments, “Likes” and “Faves” and all the accompanying Good Energy.
“Her Extravagant Melt” continues a theme that runs through my work : Nature, metaphor, and the fraught process of selection we—each of us— face daily : The choice to look for pure possibility in what is around us.
P.S. (((*:*))) YOU can create with this piece as a framed (or unframed) gallery-quality print for your living space — possibly a soft and durable duvet cover, fabric shower curtain, throw pillow to add that unique pop of color— or delight someone special with greeting cards you won’t find at the grocery store— OR ...YOU! with a weekender tote or fun tank top. ...
Her Extravagant Melt : “The Possible’s slow fuse is lit by the imagination.” Emily Dickinson
THEME AND SYMBOLISM:: In this paintography piece, the juxtaposition of color with changing light symbolizes positive change through envisioning creative perspectives. “Her Extravagant Melt” is a visual story of longing for connection highlighting an impetus for change with compassion. This is a theme that runs through what I paint on canvas, or on paper, or in a digital way.
THE BACK-STORY: : I create visual narratives from what is around me- make sketches into canvas work, then take a photo creating a mixed media digital rendering such as what you see in this piece. I reach out for the story and metaphor in a visual narrative via texture, patterns, repetition that meet in a feeling of lyrical abstraction. These elements offer a sense of coming together - a collection of concepts and forms that take shape.
METHOD:: Abstract –Expressionism-Narrative Digital Paintography with a Twist. Look for interpretations of outer/inner landscapes with a persistent focus on patterns and bold or unusual color. Photo and digital manipulation mostly NOT an accurate interpretation, seek to explore the essence of the subject. I move shapes, colors, forms, textures, layering and the overall gestalt to achieve an effect. Expect glimpses of reality from unusual perspectives. Image-making prompted by nature.
