Humans on Ice No. 4 - Alone Together
HUMANS ON ICE SERIES
Outside in my studio in Asheville , North Carolina where this image came to life, a storm is raging. There are limbs down and the mountain road rutted. As I do research based on the ONE PLANET ONE FUTURE concept, noting that the global temperature for July 2021 was the highest for July in the 142-year NOAA record(dating back to 1880) I can almost hear our planet groan.
I have been working for earth stewardship for decades. This is a digital rendering- a collage of my photos and/or drawings/paintings with a visual story to tell based on my work over those years. It is allegorical, abstract and pointed. I like to think that it offers space for the viewer to interpret the story being told.
Whether as a digital abstractionist, working as well on canvas and with photography to produce mixed media images, my hope is to engage the viewer. My thought is that visual impressions, founded on simple or more complex designs, can carry a narrative that can build on an promising tale of everyday living.
HUMANS ON ICE symbolizes urgency, transitions, new perceptions that evoke positive change. It embraces an inner - symbolic-mythic- landscape. As a visual narrative I hope that it reveals that even disparate parts CAN work together.
