"Isadora and the Trumpet Flower"

"Isadora and the Trumpet Flower" is part of a series of explorations into contrasting light.This paintography series evolved from a photo I took of a trumpet flower . It emerged from that starting point through digital manipulation and color enhancements to the digital paintography piece you see here.

*This would make a lovely pillow to bring a bit of color to a small space.

Inspiration: The series was inspired by the movement and lines in Isadora Duncan’s dance performances. This is the fourth piece (No.4) in the Isadora Duncan on Blue Velvet series. In this piece, the patterns and colors of the series continue against the backdrop of “Blue Velvet.” reminiscent of another series about nightlife that I painted- la Vie Nocturne.

Symbolism: Here, the trumpet symbolizes willingness to engage despite the perils, and the celebration of a life full-lived. : The juxtaposition of deep blue to midnight blue hues- in contrast to the soft orange hues of the flower - symbolizes polarities. Many new understandings and relationships may arrive in an evening meant for connection. Positive change through envisioning different perspectives is possible through the very human longing for connection .

There are those who say that this very light lends itself to an aura of magic and mystery. What happens in the wee hours that transcends the ordinary? This series explores that question. It is dedicated to the intriguing sensory perceptions of the night.

Method: Working out a mixed medium/ photo-montage technique that you see in this with textures and layering for the effect unfolds in this composition via a juxtaposition of color.

This piece creates its narrative via texture, patterns, repetition with references to "lyrical abstraction.” These elements meet to offer a feeling of coming together as the collection of concepts and forms take shape.
