“Isadora Duncan” ( No. 2 ) Her Extraordinary Scarf
“Isadora Duncan” (No. 2) was inspired by the movement and lines in Isadora Duncan’s dance performances and by her Scarf. It is figurative abstraction rendered as paintography. It is a mixed media piece that evolved from a simple pen and ink sketch I did of a trumpet flower, embellished with imagination, then painted, then photographed here in my studio here in Asheville, North Carolina.
Theme and Symbolism: : In this second piece (No. 2) in the Isadora Duncan on Blue Velvet series, the focus is Isadora’s signature scarf. Also referred to, as the many curving lines, is her philosophy and uninhibited lifestyle. This piece is symbolic of fluidity, release, letting go, dismissal of rigidity and structure. There is a nod to caution as within the structure of traditional ballet. The visual story emphasizes the fraught process of selection we—each of us-- face daily—that being the choice to be mindful...
