Mixed Media - Digital Art, Mixed Media/photos/graphics
Juried SELECTION- print in the publication, CIRQUE LITERARY JOURNAL
“Josei” is figurative abstract paintography- a digital rendering from my original watercolor/acrylic painting created here in my studio in Asheville, North Carolina.
This contemporary paintography art continues the thread of interest in nature that runs through what I paint on canvas, or on paper, or in a digital way- Empowerment, and was inspired by women who are Nobel Peace Prize winners
The visual story emphasizes the fraught process of selection we—each of us-- face every day—that being the choice to acknowledge our colorful unity in diversity.
Theme and Symbolism: : In this paintography piece, the human figure represents bold caring. The juxtaposition of color symbolizes positive change through envisioning different “colors” and perspectives.
This image was honored as a FEATURE in the following outstanding GALLERY groups at Fine Art America:

Story and Method: : “Josei” is a tribute-- in bold strokes and colors-- to the enduring presence of powerful women who dedicate their lives to change with compassion. . This image reaches out with emotional warmth to express the challenge of female empowerment.
I used a process of digital enhancement and manipulation to create this colorful representation to now (hopefully) provide a simple message...reach out with all your colorful inspiration for change with compassion at home and abroad.
I translate sketches into canvas work then take a photo creating a mixed media digital rendering such as you see in this piece. I reach out for the story or metaphor to share in a narrative via texture, patterns, repetition that meet in the feeling of collage. This piece creates its narrative via texture, patterns, repetition with references to "lyrical abstraction.” These elements meet to offer a feeling of coming together as the collection of concepts and forms take shape.
** This artwork is available in a variety of framed and unframed gallery-quality prints, home décor items such soft and durable duvet covers, fabric shower curtains, and throw pillows as well as greeting cards and weekender totes.
