" La Vie En Rose"

This is a abstract expressionism turned to paintography via a digital rendering from my original photography of a rose in a vase as viewed from studio here in Asheville, North Carolina. This contemporary paintography art continues the thread of interest in nature that runs through what I paint on canvas, or on paper, or in a digital way.

*The visual story emphasizes the fraught process of selection we—each of us-- face every day—that being the choice to look through "rose -colored glasses" when it's important for equanimity.This digital art was inspired by Edith Piaf's "Je Vois la Vie en Rose"...( I see life in pink.)

Symbolism: . The rose in this piece represents freedom (Note the bars on the window in the background.) My wish being expressed here is that all people may come to have choices for their lives...including freedom to be who they are...and to be as beautiful as a pink rose.


Story and Method: : I create from what is around me. I translate photos into paintography- an often mixed media, abstract expressionist digital rendering such as you see in this piece. I reach out for the story or metaphor using visual narrative.

This piece creates its narrative via texture, patterns, repetition with references to "lyrical abstraction.” These elements meet to offer a feeling of coming together as the collection of concepts and forms take shape.
