“ Le Chat Noir en Silhouette”
Original photography of a black cat who knew me as viewed in silhouette-and from that photo and wonderful memories -turned to contemporary paintography art via the thread of interest in all living things. This runs through what I paint on canvas, or on paper, or in a digital way.
The visual story of this cat in silhouette emphasizes The Fraught Process of Selection we -- each of us --face every day. Is this black cat looking toward you or out beyond to some tempting morsel in the distance? (Symbolic of the many choices we make just within a 24-hour time span.)
You may recognize influences- from Post-Painterly Abstraction, to Abstract Expressionist, even to Fauvism. In each case, I create from what is around me, or from an inner landscape arrived on a journey with an insistent muse and a photo hunt. I translate the photo into mixed media format, reaching out for the story or metaphor with digital manipulation to create the narrative as texture, patterns, repetition, and "post-painterly-abstraction fauve-wave" bits meet- sometimes even becoming a collage.
In this paintography piece, the juxtaposition of black and white with that tiny bit of red tangling in the changing light symbolizes positive change -- envisioning different perspectives. Each of the images in the Cats Zsanan series bases its message on the concept of Change with Compassion.
