Description
‘‘Lucky No. 6’’- This is a post painterly abstract digital rendering depicting Donegal Town, Ireland with its an incredible moon rising along the harbor. It was inspired by a photo I took when visiting this beautiful area of Ireland, then created as a digital rendering from the photo here in my studio in Asheville, North Carolina.

It remembers the writings of the Irish poet W.B. Yeats who reaches beyond personal edges to move into an abundance of moment-to-moment creative possibility. Beyond the suggestion of impermanent structures perched on the rocky cliff- (symbolic of personal barriers)- to fluidity- (represented by the body of water below) -there is a story of lucky, reliable, treasured connections.
Theme and Symbolism: : In this paintography piece, the rocky cliff is symbolic of personal barriers on levels of body, mind and spirit. Fluidity, a possible solution, is symbolized by the body of water that extends below the cliff. For a creative person, ‘‘hitting a wall’’ – the seawall here- is a common experience. Yet, there is the sun- symbolic of a rising awareness – or a connect ion with the bright inspiration of a muse.
The juxtaposition of color with changing light symbolizes positive change through different aspects of each moment. Here is the story of connection that also is a tale of creativity and change with compassion. This is a theme that runs through what I paint on canvas, or on paper, or in a digital way having to do with the old Tao saying: “ The journey is the reward.”
Story and Method: : I create from what is around me, or from inner landscapes that arrive with a friendly muse. I translate concepts onto canvas, then take a photo creating a mixed media digital rendering such as you see in this piece. I reach out for the story or metaphor to share in a narrative via texture, patterns, repetition that meet in the feeling of collage.
This piece creates its narrative via texture, patterns, repetition with references to "lyrical abstraction.” These elements meet to offer a feeling of coming together as the collection of concepts and forms take shape.
** This artwork is available in a variety of framed and unframed gallery-quality prints, home décor items such soft and durable duvet covers, fabric shower curtains, and throw pillows as well as greeting cards and weekender totes.
