Lungta the Windhorse No. 1

“Lungta the Windhorse” No. 1 –this image originated from a close-up PHOTO I took of a horse playing in the valley of the mountains near my studio in Asheville, North Carolina. From there, I began with a very simple line drawing - minimalist with a pastel reference. Then I added bold strokes and the black and white graphics.

As it took shape on canvas –(acrylic)- I
it seemed to have a "voice"---and this reminded me of the Legend of Lungta the Windhorse.

Photographed once more, it evolved into modern contemporary -(new mixed media-) paintography. I took that photo of the canvas and subjected it to the whims of my muse (and computer)- ...The result was this digital rendering.

If you are intrigued with “the unlimited energy of basic goodness” and “inherent wakefulness,” you might already be familiar with prayer flags flying high Himalayans . ZSANAN STUDIO NOTES:: I hope you will find a connection here - linger awhile, possibly start a conversation about the elements - spaces, lines, textures and rhythms or themes that speak to you. METHOD:: I create visual narratives from what is around me- make sketches into canvas work, then take a photo creating a mixed media digital rendering such as what you see in this piece. I reach out for the story and metaphor via texture, patterns, repetition - a feeling of lyrical abstraction of elements offering a sense of collaboration - a collection of concepts and forms taking shape.

Look for interpretations of outer/inner landscapes with a persistent focus on patterns and bold or unusual color. Photo and digital manipulation mostly NOT an accurate interpretation, seek to explore the essence of the subject - shapes, colors, forms, textures, layering and the overall gestalt – for an effect. Expect glimpses of reality from unusual perspectives and image-making prompted by nature.
