Description
" PERCUSSION No. 5 Domenico Scarlatti " is a figurative abstraction piece created in my studio in Asheville, North Carolina while listening to and inspired by Oscar Peterson’s composition, “When Summer Comes.” From a PHOTO taken at one of his live concerts I developed this piece about “keeping the rhythm” while imagining how a certain percussion instrument might sound when added to the concert.
“ PERCUSSION No. 5 Domenico Scarlatti " invites your interpretation, for this is narrative ar. The style is modern impressionist in new media mixed media format – combinations of pencil, ink, paint, photo work and textured applications that often unfold in a “collage” of color and texture.

Whether on paper, canvas, or as a digital rendering, the result is “contemporary mixed media art” that celebrates the joie de vivre of music. This not only is a tribute to percussionists –( piano, drums, xylophone, etc.) for “keeping the rhythm” – (not always an easy task)- but to creative makers in general. The image highlights the discovery of “right” moments, and the application of the “right” strength for our time and place. Notice a colorful nod to metaphor.
SYMBOLISM:: In this paintography piece, the juxtaposition of color with changing light symbolizes positive change. Look for creative perspectives. Represented here is a story of connection, an impetus for change with compassion.
ZSANAN PHILOSOPHY: “NOT AN IMAGE BUT AN EXPERIENCE”--
As we - each of us- (and as a collection of living creatures) - face the fraught process of selection every day- may we find what is positive and possible. "Perception is everything in art. The artist goal is to influence the viewer to see the world as the artist does. This can change the viewers mood, their mind, their outlook - even if only for a limited time." Lutz Baar
