RED SKY AT NIGHT PROMISE is the first in this BEAUTIFUL RED SERIES. As with those that follow, it was created in the fauve digital paintography style. This piece began with a photo I took of a brilliant sunset. You may notice a smile and a nod to the 50 shades of red as Symbols of Belonging. As you view the way they work together, you may also get a sense of a merging of realities. Viewers have noted that a specific thread of interest runs through what I paint on canvas or on paper or in a digital way: The Fraught Process of Selection we- each of us- face every day.

My paintings have evolved over the years, but, in each case, I create from what is around me... or from an inner landscape... .Most often these days I begin with a photo hunt. I translate the photo into digital format and look for the story or metaphor it tells. I use digital manipulation to create the ”terrain“ adding texture, patterns, repetition, and "fauve -wave" components. The juxtaposition of emphatic color with changing light symbolizes change and the possibilities for understanding different perspectives.

The BEAUTIFUL RED series brings digital paintography work together around the idea of Change with Compassion ... portrayed with color, metaphor, whimsy and humor. There’s an old Tao saying: “ The journey is the reward.” That is what I am wishing for viewers who come upon my work.

This piece creates its narrative via texture, patterns, repetition with references to "lyrical abstraction.” These elements meet to offer a feeling of coming together as the collection of concepts and forms take shape.
