“Romancing the Moon”


Original photography of a set up for a still life painting in my studio in Asheville, North Carolina became contemporary paintography inspired by the thread of interest that runs through what I paint on canvas, or on paper, or in a digital way—the compelling experience of nature.

The visual story emphasizes The Fraught Process of Selection we—each of us-- face every day—that being the choice to look for possibility in what is around us.

Symbolism and/or Meaning: : In this paintography piece, the juxtaposition of color with changing light symbolizes positive change through envisioning different perspectives. Here is the story of longing for connection a tale of Change with Compassion. Tao Saying: “ The journey is the reward.”


How This Image Came To Be: : I create from what is around me sometimes turning to the “ inner landscape muse” after a photo shoot. I translate photos into mixed media format utilizing software and reach out for the story or metaphor with digital manipulation. This piece creates its narrative via texture, patterns, repetition, and "post-painterly-abstraction fauve-wave" bits that meet in the feeling of collage. (A completed digital collage image , unlike those in which I am moving more into photo-manipulation and/or paintography, seeks to be somewhat obvious in terms of the pasting of image sections together. )
