Description
Safari Acacia Shelter by the Turkana- Island in the Lake
This abstract image came together here in my studio in Asheville, North Carolina. A combination of photos inspired by Michael Conner and my watercolor- it "arrived" when I used my smartphone to capture the JPEG then added layers (hundreds !+) to create the digital rendering you see.
Materials Often Used: pen-and-ink for design, watercolor and canvas paper, gloss medium, some oil pastels, bits of acrylic paint and sometimes glazing medium, smartphone to create JPEG, digital-rendering and photo manipulation- this is a collage-mixed media piece.
Meaning behind the digital collage - a story to tell: Promising Tales of Life on Planet Earth. This follows with my theme in narrative art with emotive content- ( some call an inner landscape)- that offers an opportunity for the viewer to interpret the story being told, and thus add to the story.
Whether as a digital abstractionist, working as well on canvas and with photography to produce mixed media images, my hope is to engage the viewer. My thought is that visual impressions, founded on simple or more complex designs, can build on an promising tale of life on planet Earth.
SAFARI- ACACIA SHLTER BY THE TURKANA - ISLAND IN THE LAKE symbolizes a sense of joy of life despite potential isolation- (the island is the symbol here) - transitions, new perceptions that evoke positive change, the embracing of an inner - symbolic-mythic- visual landscape. This piece may have a particular appeal as the visual narrative reveals that even disparate parts CAN work together.
.
Painting the Grand: In tune with the wealth of mother earth, here, conceptualized are geometric shapes and symbols, in the language of balance and symmetry as an approachable image I created for textiles. "I am just a tiny person in Africa, but there is a place for me, and for everybody, to sit down on this earth and touch it and call it their own." ~Alexander McCall Smith
