"Sunken Treasures"
This image, created as part of the BREAST CANCER AWARENESS campaign, began as a sketch. But the ink muse called and so the sketch moved into a collaboration of ink and watercolor. Finally, photography let it become a digital rendering here in my studio in Asheville, North Carolina.
Given it origins I think of it as "mixed media" contemporary paintography art (((*:*))- all via the thread of interest that runs through what I paint on canvas, or on paper, or in a digital way— that being fascination with nature, change and possibility within the dance.

Theme and Symbolism: In this paintography piece, the juxtaposition of color with changing light is symbolic of positive potential through recognizing nature’s seasons of change and acknowledging differing perspectives.
Method and Story: I translate the photo into mixed media format, reaching out for the story or metaphor with digital manipulation to create the narrative as texture, patterns, repetition, and an eclectic combination of "lyrical abstraction to post-painterly-abstraction to fauve-wave" bits.

Sunken Treasures is all about, as Thomas Berry said, “The universe is composed of subjects to be communed with, not objects to be exploited. Everything has its own voice. Thunder and lightening and stars and planets, flowers, birds, animals, trees, ~~ all these have voices, and they constitute a community of existence that is profoundly related.”
