SWISS HOLIDAY

This image came together in my studio in Asheville, North Carolina. But it started well before that in a lengthy process –first, as a simple pen-and-ink drawing- then into watercolors and then digitized in what I call my "art-tech-block-and-carve technique. This brings together bits from my original art-- photographed -- to create a collage, digitally-rendered containing elements --both abstract and organic -- as FUSION ART intending to tell a story.

In this case, the story is about singlehandedly accepting the challenges one faces in life-with courage despite the "slippery slopes."


MATERIALS OFTEN USED:: Pen-and-ink for composition, watercolor, canvas paper, sometimes gloss medium, oil pastels, bits of acrylic paint etc.—captured as a photo to create a JPEG. Next comes lots and lots of digital layering of the original materials.

Meaning behind the digital collage - a story to tell: Promising Tales of Life on Planet Earth. This follows with my theme in narrative art with emotive content- ( some call an inner landscape)- that offers an opportunity for the viewer to interpret the story being told, and thus add to the story.

Whether as a digital abstractionist, working as well on canvas and with photography to produce mixed media images, my hope is to engage the viewer. My thought is that visual impressions, founded on simple or more complex designs, can build on an promising tale of life on planet Earth.

_____ _____ symbolizes a sense of joy of life, transitions, new perceptions that evoke positive change, the embracing of an inner - symbolic-mythic- visual landscape. This piece may have a particular appeal as the visual narrative reveals that even disparate parts CAN work together.
