“Ten Thousand Trees, Sun Descending”
This is a post-painterly abstract expressionist effort that originated as a photo I took looking out my studio door in Asheville, North Carolina, USA. That original photography turned to contemporary paintography art via the thread of interest that runs through what I paint on canvas, or on paper, or in a digital way- the contemporaneous simplicity and the amazing complexity of nature.
The visual story emphasizes The Fraught Process of Selection we—each of us-- face every day—that being the choice to look for possibility in what is around us.

Symbolism: In this paintography piece, the juxtaposition of color with changing light symbolizes positive change through envisioning different perspectives. Each of the images in this series bases its tale on the concept of Change with Compassion.
The Story: I added color to define emotion. There are patterns and shadows and deepening expanses that may evoke the sense that 10,000 trees are in a conversation, one with the other, and one with the orchestra.
How might that sound? I recalled these words from Ansel Adams, “With all art expression, when something is seen, it is a vivid experience, sudden, compelling, and inevitable.”
