TIDE OF MY NORTH STAR

is the mysterious coming together of neurographic pen and ink to acrylic to digital rendering--emotive and with a nod to MY North Star--an image that painted itself here in my studio in Asheville, North Carolina. It happened in response to a conversation with a beloved "guiding star" ...

What happens when we trust one another with our hearts? This "neurographic" image attempts to portray that . Over the years, I have found that we can arrive at diverse and amazing perspectives, unfolding in mysterious ways.

I had, earlier that very day, taken out my sketch pad-- working with a meditative/relaxing and envisioning technique using pen and ink. Alongside the sketch, was another piece I had been developing--an abstract in the colors of the sea at night. Then THAT conversation led to the merging of images and what you see here.

Working with creative energies is exciting! I, for one, am continually surprised with the visual outcomes and the thought blossoms that accompany an image. The nudge and jolt when elements come together with a sense of joie de vivre as I experienced when creating this "neurographic" image can be captivating.

THIS is about BEING in the flow...

This is lyrical abstraction--an eclectic collage-- fusion art, mixed media, simultaneously sparse and exciting because it combines textures and shapes of recognizable objects into patterns that spark the imagination.

It is an effort visually to narrate the place --beyond time -- where an angular abstract landscape can harmonize with the curving natural and logic meets emotion --in the space of possibility.


Landscapes are the inspiration for much of my work. There is a never-ending challenge to bring together inner-outer-natural- abstract into an eclectic-mixedmedia collage--(slices carved from my original art in a collage, digitally-rendered.) I am looking for the blended elements, both abstract and organic to become a fusion, lyrically abstracted, and ripe for story telling.

SYMBOLISM:Here, the attempt is to express a sense of joy of life, transitions, new perceptions that evoke positive change, the embracing of an inner - symbolic-mythic- visual landscape that can reveal how disparate parts work together when our visual impressions-- founded on simple or more complex designs-- build on a promising tale of life on Earth.

In this case, the narrative moves into the acknowledgement of a Loving Presence with Deep Gratitude.

MEDIA:: Sketch for composition to canvas and/or paper, sometimes, oil pastels, sometimes acrylic paint. The result then captured as a photo and brought to create a JPEG. Finally, digital layering of the original materials.


Objective:: Narrative art with emotive content- that offers an opportunity for the viewer to interpret the story being told, and thus add to the story. Whether as a digital abstractionist, working as well on canvas and with photography to produce mixed media images, my hope is to engage the person who is looking at the image.
