"TREES OF A DIFFERENT COLOR-We All Drink Water”
(Series- No.6)

From my original photography of a huge tree who lives near my studio- then -sketched- painted and sent via Photoshop -- digitally converted in Asheville, North Carolina- turned to MIXED MEDIA image --contemporary --paintography.

This, via the thread of interest in nature (today it's TREES!)-- that runs through what I paint on canvas, or on paper, or in a digital way.


Theme and Symbolism: The visual story emphasizes the fraught process of selection we each face every day. It tells the story of unity in diversity- that we are alike in so many ways- yet unique in our own being and perspectives. The juxtaposition of color with changing light symbolizes positive change through envisioning different perspectives. The intent is to convey an idea of how we work within the realm of change and compassion.

Story and Method: This image evolved from a photo I took. My dog and I were on a walk along the shore of the French Broad River in Asheville, NC. The wind, whipping up was making noises I’d never heard before while creating twirls and swirls in four directions. I had to capture that moment in a photo. This digital paintography evolved from that very photo.

I create from what is around me. I translate photos into mixed media often abstract expressionist digital renderings such as you see in this piece. I reach out for the story or metaphor to share in a narrative via texture, patterns, repetition that meet in the feeling of collage.

This piece creates its narrative via texture, patterns, repetition, and "post-painterly-abstraction fauve-wave" bits that meet in the feeling of an integrated collection of concepts and forms... with a feeling of collage.
