Uncorked No. 3 - " It’s like seeing what the flowers smell like!" (Penney R.)

Here is a figurative to lyrical abstract "paintography" piece-- It is a collage --mixed media image--a digital rendering from a photo I took of the original acrylic on canvas here in my studio in Asheville, North Carolina.

It was inspired by a bottle I found (and photographed) by the ocean one day. Had it once contained a message? I wondered ... This visual story reminds me of the fraught process of selection we face daily— a choice to unleash possibility despite the tides and waves of adversity.

Theme and Symbolism: : RELEASE

In this paintography piece, the bottle with swirling, colorful vapors released into the great beyond represents freedom from harmful constraints on all levels – heart and soul, body, mind, spirit. The message in that uncorked bottle: Release expectations, unleash your potential, take a deep breath and live fully.

The juxtaposition of color with changing light symbolizes positive change –
a soft landing, adventure, surprise and curiosity. Here is the story of connection with self and others, a tale of change with compassion. Old Tao Saying: “ The journey is the reward.”


Story and Method: : I create from what is around me. I translate sketches into canvas work then take a photo creating a mixed media digital rendering such as you see in this piece. I reach out for the story or metaphor to share in a narrative via texture, patterns, repetition that meet in the feeling of collage.

This piece creates its narrative via texture, patterns, repetition with references to "lyrical abstraction.” These elements meet to offer a feeling of coming together as the collection of concepts and forms take shape.
