Description

"SOFT LANDINGS" is a contemporary impressionist and abstract image. It was inspired by the photo of a statue of Buddha that sits in my studio garden here in Asheville, N.C.

This is figurative abstraction in a lyrical presentation. It is abstract paintography -a digital rendering from my original photography of the mountains and blue skies one early morning as viewed from studio.

This contemporary paintography art continues the thread of interest in nature that runs through what I paint on canvas, or on paper, or in a digital way. The visual story emphasizes the fraught process of selection we—each of us-- face every day—that being the choice, each morning, to look for beauty and possibility in what is around us.

Theme and Symbolism: : In this paintography piece, the juxtaposition of color with changing light symbolizes positive change through envisioning different perspectives. Here is the story of longing for connection in a visual narrative about tale of change with compassion.

Story and Method: : I create from what is around me. I translate sketches into canvas work then take a photo creating a mixed media digital rendering such as you see in this piece. I reach out for the story or metaphor to share in a narrative via texture, patterns, repetition that meet in the feeling of collage.

This piece creates its narrative via texture, patterns, repetition with references to "lyrical abstraction.” These elements meet to offer a feeling of coming together as the collection of concepts and forms take shape.
