RED FANTASY.

The other day hummingbirds zoomed over the deck at my studio here in Asheville. North Carolina. I snapped a quick PHOTO, made a SKETCH as they aimed for the roses -- this became the inspiration for this piece.

It is a celebration of what both linear and curving (acrylic) brush strokes on paper--then combined into digital paintography--can do!

SYMBOLISM:: Here is a tribute to persistence and the complexity of the rose. It may remind you of the fraught process of selection each of us confronts, daily. Life is beautiful and precious... like the ruby colors combined here with other shades of red.

Symbolism: Here, the many shades of red are symbolic of the many ways we are alike and the many ways in which we belong in an experience we share...As the red rose reminds us the experience IS “beautiful but temporary”...and it is common to all living creatures.

Story and Method: : I create from what is around me. I translate photos into paintography- an often mixed media, abstract expressionist digital rendering such as you see in this piece. I reach out for the story or metaphor using visual narrative.

This piece creates its narrative via texture, patterns, repetition with references to "lyrical abstraction.” These elements meet to offer a feeling of coming together as the collection of concepts and forms take shape.
