Description
"... in the clear early light..." Billy Collins
Our neighbors are on an extended sail in the Caribbean. This image sends a wish for "CALM SEAS and SMOOTHE SAILING" in the clear early light-- as hurricane season begins. It's an abstract image--created here in my mountain home studio in Asheville, North Carolina, USA--a collage from their photos -- with layering of a watercolor I did, blended into a fusion piece via digital rendering.
Creating in this way where I fuse verious elements into the images can be a coalescing experience. There is that nudge and jolt when I bring together elements into one piece that reminds me of what David Bowie said, "I don't know where I'm going from here, but I promise it won't be boring."
I "lose track of time" while in the creative flow, and feel a deepening sense of calm. I love the idea of lyrical abstraction where I can blend geometric and organic influences.
MEDIA:: Sketch for composition to canvas and/or paper, sometimes, oil pastels, sometimes acrylic paint. The result then captured as a photo and brought to create a JPEG. Finally, digital layering of the original materials.
Objective:: Narrative art with emotive content- that offers an opportunity for the viewer to interpret the story being told, and thus add to the story. Whether as a digital abstractionist, working as well on canvas and with photography to produce mixed media images, my hope is to engage the person who is looking at the image.
Symbolism :: Ever a sense of joy of life, transitions, new perceptions that evoke positive change, the embracing of an inner - symbolic-mythic- visual landscape that can reveal how disparate parts work together when visual impressions, founded on simple or more complex designs, build on a promising tale of life on Earth.
