Amalfi is one destination Fauve artists find breathtaking. The bold lines and curves of the terrain, the mountains plunging down to the Mediterranean sea, and- from the distance portrayed in this piece- tiny buildings might be only lightly planted on the cliffs, are simply thrilling. Here is the fourth in my “Fauve-wave” series on sweet, ancient, heart-stirring Amalfi .

One could only imagine what Henri Matisse might have said when confronted with the midnight seas and the immense power of the rising cliffs. Even in black and white the impact can be both the startling and delicate and so expressive of the nature of the Amalfi coast.

I wanted to create a vibrant visual impression. From an original oil pastel I ventured into paintography and digital design to create this contemporary fauve piece. It’s digital mixed medium with added patterns-texture for contextual value. Digital manipulation was quite a challenge here with geometric abstraction and expressionist values. Those who meditate may see symbolic references here.

I love the idea that art buyers (and art lovers) might choose to create a token of color at home from this collection...possibly a reminder of our mutual journey toward change with compassion.
