Description
“ Sea Wall- High Noon”
“ Sea Walls- High Noon” is post painterly abstract expressionism as paintography. What does that mean? It simply describes a process. This image began with a photo I took of a seawall on the Florida Coast. I later sketched the image, painted it and decided to do a digital rendering. That is what you see here.
Symbolism: This stalwart sea wall in conjunction with the flowing ocean symbolizes concurrent strength and vulnerability. In SEA WALLS, in addition to the abstract expression, I combined semi-monochromatic, yet brilliant color, to represent deep emotion. As Rumi wrote, "The wound is the place where the light enters you.”

THANK YOU.
The Story: I was inspired by the students of Stoneman Douglas High who confronted a school shooting with strength despite vulnerability. As a former teacher and guidance counselor from a feeder school to Stoneman Douglas there in Broward County, I was deeply moved. I wanted to show support. The photo I had taken of a Florida sea wall came to mind.
Influences: The SEA WALLS series was also inspired by the works of Paul Klee, particularly his geometric statements. I used a breakwater, the ocean, and a distant horizon as subjects in this contemporary photo-painting... the Klee-inspired geometric shapes, together with fauve flatness, added patterns and texture in a digital manipulation reaching in to present an abstract, stylized presentation.
** This artwork is available in a variety of framed and unframed gallery-quality prints, home décor items such soft and durable duvet covers, fabric shower curtains, and throw pillows as well as greeting cards and weekender totes.
