Mixed Media - Paintings To Photo-art, Digital Mixed Media
Deep Earth No. 3- Twenty-Four Karat
"Deep Earth No. 3- Twenty-Four Karat" is a visual narrative about the precious gifts of Mother Nature. Here the huge golden flower is symbolic of those gifts. Going "underground" - (deep within)- to seek those gifts is rewarded in this colorful piece where various forces are at playbring an awakening of all the possibilities.
I hope viewers will find a bit of joie de vivre here - linger awhile, start a conversation about her discoveries. The space, lines, textures and rhythms are calling. .. .
This visual image began as a photo of one of my canvases. Originally , this piece took shape as an acrylic on canvas from a photo I took while hiking in the mountains where a landslide had occurred. I photographed the canvas and separated elements into a collage. At that point, it evolved into mixed media, modern contemporary (new media) paintography. When I took a photo of the final iteration and subjected it to the whims of my muse-(and computer)- here in my studio in Asheville, North Carolina it became this digital rendering.
It continues a theme that runs through my work : Nature, metaphor, and the fraught process of selection we—each of us— face daily : The choice to look for pure possibility in what is around us.

THE BACK-STORY: : I create visual narratives from what is around me- make sketches into canvas work, then take a photo creating a mixed media digital rendering such as what you see in this piece. I reach out for the story and metaphor in a visual narrative via texture, patterns, repetition that meet in a feeling of lyrical abstraction. These elements offer a sense of coming together - a collection of concepts and forms that take shape.
THEME AND SYMBOLISM:: In this paintography piece, the juxtaposition of color with changing light symbolizes positive change through envisioning different perspectives. Here is the story of longing for connection a tale of change with compassion. This is a theme that runs through what I paint on canvas, or on paper, or in a digital way.
METHOD:: Modern Impressionism, Abstract Expressionism, Narrative, and Digital Paintography with a Twist. Look for interpretations of outer/inner landscapes with a persistent focus on patterns and bold or unusual color. Photo and digital manipulation mostly NOT an accurate interpretation, seek to explore the essence of the subject. I move shapes, colors, forms, textures, layering and the overall gestalt to achieve an effect. Expect glimpses of reality from unusual perspectives. Image-making prompted by nature
