"Long and Winding Road"- No. 1
Series

"The Long and Winding Road" is a digital collage and rendering- mixed media compilation that actually began as a photo I took of an interesting door! That became the inspiration for a sketch...and then, my watercolor, then acrylic on canvas painting. I took a photo again. Quite a process to arrive at what you see here from my studio in Asheville, North Carolina.

This contemporary abstract expressionist piece, part of a paintography series is inspired by in human interaction with nature and the fraught process of selection we—each of us- face daily—the choice to look for possibility even in challenging moments.


Theme and Symbolism: : The door represents a sense of place and belonging and a story of the brilliant connection that goes beyond time. In this paintography piece, changing light offered by the rising (or setting) sun symbolizes positive change through allowing time to work through change. This is a theme that runs through what I paint on canvas, or on paper, or in a digital way.

Story and Method: This is the story of the promise of enduring love and friendship.
This piece creates its narrative via texture, patterns, repetition with references to lyrical abstraction. These elements meet to offer a feeling of coming together as the collection of concepts and forms take shape.
