"On the Wings of the Sun" (series) No Place Like Home

I took a photo of an awesome sunrise over the mountainside at my cabin. --musing then about our reliance on the good graces of the sun one morning. After a quick sketch that same sunrise took shape on canvas –(acrylic)- later to be photographed once more. At that point, it evolved into modern contemporary -(new mixed media-) paintography.

When I took yet another photo of the canvas - this time subjecting it to the whims of my muse-(and computer)- in my studio in Asheville, North Carolina, the result was this abstracted digital rendering.

Walt Whitman's verse on that potent observer of life on Earth- “I too am not a bit tamed, I too am untranslatable, I sound my barbaric yawp over the roofs of the world” comes to mind.And so, thus inspired, I created the "on the WIngs of the Sun" series to explore how we can be more aware of precious resources.



“On the Wings of the Sun” is a bright landscape- an abstract expressionist piece. It tells a story of our relationship to the sun and, as narrative art, invites your interpretation. It also is a collection of visual impressions- a collage embracing color and shape. There is (in this series) emphatic color. Also look for hidden bits to surprise you.

Whether on paper, canvas, or as a digital rendering, the result is “contemporary mixed media art” in celebration of the sun, of nature and – in general - of joie de vivre. In fact, the purpose, the raison d'être is to celebrate life. As we - each of us- (and also as a collection of living creatures) - face the fraught process of selection every day- may we find what is possible as we fly onward “On the Wings of the Sun.”

ZSANAN STUDIO NOTES::

SYMBOLISM:: In this paintography piece, the juxtaposition of color with changing light symbolizes positive change through envisioning creative perspectives. Here the story of longing for connection highlights an impetus for change with compassion.


METHOD:: I create visual narratives from what is around me- make sketches into canvas work, then take a photo creating a mixed media digital rendering such as what you see in this piece. I reach out for the story and metaphor via texture, patterns, repetition - a feeling of lyrical abstraction of elements offering a sense of collaboration - a collection of concepts and forms taking shape.

Look for interpretations of outer/inner landscapes with a persistent focus on patterns and bold or unusual color. Photo and digital manipulation mostly NOT an accurate interpretation, seek to explore the essence of the subject - shapes, colors, forms, textures, layering and the overall gestalt – for an effect. Expect glimpses of reality from unusual perspectives and image-making prompted by nature.
