ROAD TRIPS -WESTWARD HO is another in the SUMMER ROAD TRIPS –ALL IN. This series with text accompaniment is a work in progress to be released on Kindle. Each of the graphics in this collection was digitally painted, but began as PHOTOS - a collage- of campers, vans, old cars, woodies, dogs and cats. Later, I sketched and painted the images...either on canvas or as watercolor on paper to become a mixed media image.



Here is art for kids of all ages, part of my narrative art collection of family stories and illustrations for children’s books..

As an old schoolteacher I have a love for show and tell and am a storyteller myself. Here, I turned to digital paintography to depict a happy ending when dog and cat are bundled in the camper to head off for a family vacation.Summer Fun.

I used very bright “summery” hues focusing on family fun and vacation “energies” many of us have experienced. I love the idea that art buyers (and art lovers) might choose to create a collection to remind them of happy memories.




THE BACK-STORY: : I create visual narratives from what is around me- make sketches into canvas work, then take a photo creating a mixed media digital rendering such as what you see in this piece. I reach out for the story and metaphor in a visual narrative via texture, patterns, repetition that meet in a feeling of lyrical abstraction. These elements offer a sense of coming together - a collection of concepts and forms that take shape.

THEME AND SYMBOLISM:: In this paintography piece, the juxtaposition of color with changing light symbolizes positive change through envisioning different perspectives. Here is the story of longing for connection a tale of change with compassion. This is a theme that runs through what I paint on canvas, or on paper, or in a digital way.

METHOD:: Modern Impressionism, Abstract Expressionism, Narrative, and Digital Paintography with a Twist. Look for interpretations of outer/inner landscapes with a persistent focus on patterns and bold or unusual color. Photo and digital manipulation mostly NOT an accurate interpretation, seek to explore the essence of the subject. I move shapes, colors, forms, textures, layering and the overall gestalt to achieve an effect. Expect glimpses of reality from unusual perspectives. Image-making prompted by nature.
