"Lovely"

"Lovely" is one of the cactus flower textile and wall art decor designs from the Zssnan southwest collection. It was inspired by my original photography of a cactus flower as viewed from Georgia O’Keefe’s compound and museum in Abiquiu, New Mexico -- then turned to contemporary paintography art via the thread of interest that runs through what I paint on canvas, or on paper, or in a digital way-- nature's contemporaneous embrace both linear and curving lines.

Here the appreciation of O’Keefe and her work in the southwest USA also pays respect to cultural elements-- to First Nations, Hopi and to the great Zuni stories.

Symbolism: This dawn cactus rose is a symbol of the protection and endurance of pure possibility. It also references solidarity with Earth and Mother Nature. The juxtaposition of color with changing light symbolizes positive change through envisioning different perspectives. The theme of the images in this series is Change with Compassion.

Story and Method: : I create from what is around me. I translate sketches into canvas work then take a photo creating a mixed media digital rendering such as you see in this piece. I reach out for the story or metaphor to share in a narrative via texture, patterns, repetition that meet in the feeling of collage.

This piece creates its narrative via texture, patterns, repetition with references to "lyrical abstraction.” These elements meet to offer a feeling of coming together as the collection of concepts and forms take shape.
