“Cool Surfer Cat”

Original photography of our Zsanan Studio Cat evolved to become this digital image as I thought about a trip to the ocean! This is the result as viewed from the imagination of the artist in Asheville , North Carolina. (((=^:^=)))

As you see, humor and color combine in this contemporary digital art via the thread of interest that runs through what I paint on canvas, or on paper, or in a digital way. The visual story emphasizes The Fraught Process of Selection we each face every day and is the eighth photo-painting in a fun, funny and funky series about facing challenges, renewal and caring.

Each of the camping and/or seascapes in that collection is mixed media paintography- digitally painted, but they began as photos taken while on vacation at the ocean’s shore in North Carolina.

I used vivid hues as “SYMBOLS”... to express both the story implied and a longing for a deep breath of fresh air away from the daily grind. Those who meditate or practice Reiki or any of the “energy” practices may see references to that “deep breath” here. I wanted to create a vibrant visual impression.

And you may recognize influences- from Post-Painterly Abstraction, to Abstract Expressionist, even to Fauvism. In each case, I create from what is around me, or from an inner landscape arrived on a journey with an insistent muse and a photo hunt.

I translate the photo into mixed media format, reaching out for the story or metaphor with digital manipulation to create the narrative as texture, patterns, repetition, and "post-painterly-abstraction fauve-wave" bits meet- sometimes even becoming a collage.

In this paintography piece, the juxtaposition of color with changing light symbolizes positive change through envisioning different perspectives. Each of the images in this series bases its tale on the concept of Change with Compassion.
