“Cyan Skies” a Dreamscape


“Cyan Skies” is a dreamscape - a digital rendering from my original acrylic painting on canvas of a scene inspired by the high desert of New Mexico as interpreted here in my studio in Asheville, North Carolina. I was traveling along Route 66 fascinated with how structures, color, and landscape combined beneath brilliant skies. My wish was to capture that magic ... a sense of place.

This contemporary paintography with a Fauvist flare continues the thread of interest in the emotional impact of Earth’s awesome environment, and how to sustain this beauty for future generations. .. a theme that runs through what I paint on canvas, or on paper, or in a digital way. The visual story emphasizes the fraught process of selection we—each of us-- face every day—as we look for happy outcomes and possibility.

Theme and Symbolism: : In this paintography piece, the choice of bold elements combine with the juxtaposition of color with changing light to symbolize well-pure potential.

Story and Method: : I create from what is around me. I translate sketches into canvas work then take a photo creating a mixed media digital rendering such as you see in this piece. I reach out for the story or metaphor to share in a narrative via texture, patterns, repetition that frequently meet in the feeling of collage.

This piece creates its narrative via texture, patterns, repetition with references to "lyrical abstraction.” These elements meet to offer a feeling of coming together as the collection of concepts and forms take shape.
