THE WIND AND THE RAVENS- Everything Counts
“This artwork was created using Neurographic Art techniques as developed by Pavel Piskarev in 2014.”
While doing a pen-and-ink drawing here in my studio here in Asheville, N.C., I was pondering the wise words of Margaret Meade: " Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has."
INSPIRATION :: Her words inspired this image-
THE WIND AND THE RAVENS - EVERYTHING COUNTS unfolded during a meditative/relaxing and envisioning technique I use while drawing. In this case, quite suddenly the image you see here seemed to come alive-- ravens were playing in the wild winds of life - - there was an expanse of possibility -- "every single movement mattered."
While later I painted the image, I saved the original for the INKLINGS & DROLLS series because it felt powerful in an unique way.. . and SYMBOLIC of pure possibility.
I am wondering how it will speak to you! The nudge and jolt when wise words and elements come together might just be like flying in the wind - capturing the essential moments with joie de vivre-- as I imagine ravens flying in wild winds do!
I experienced this sensation when creating this "neurographic" image. As David Bowie said, "I don't know where I'm going from here, but I promise it won't be boring."
For me, creating images is a coalescing experience. I "lose track of time" while in the creative flow, and feel a deepening sense of calm. I love the idea of lyrical abstraction where I can blend geometric and organic influences. One technique I have turned to-(as you see here)- to work toward that goal is Neurographic art, a process rooted in psychology and akin to meditative practices. MEDIA:: Sketch for composition to paper. The result then captured as a photo and brought to create a JPEG. Finally, digital layering of the original materials.
Objective:: Narrative art with emotive content- that offers an opportunity for the viewer to interpret the story being told, and thus add to the story. Whether as a digital abstractionist, working as well on canvas and with photography to produce mixed media images, my hope is to engage the person who is looking at the image.
Symbolism :: Ever a sense of joy of life, transitions, new perceptions that evoke positive change, the embracing of an inner - symbolic-mythic- visual landscape that can reveal how disparate parts work together when visual impressions, founded on simple or more complex designs, build on a promising tale of life on Earth.
